Ocean County
Strong.
As residents begin returning to their homes and power restoration efforts continue across Ocean County, we extend our deepest gratitude to the first responders whose heroic efforts saved countless homes and communities during the April 22, 2025, Jones Road fire.
Over 15,000 acres of Ocean County burned due to the Jones Road Fire, First responders remained on the front lines for over a week to ensure public safety and to protect our homes. Miraculously, not a single life or residence was lost, a testament to the courage and coordination of those on the front lines. Sadly, some local businesses have been affected and our thoughts are with those local business owners and employees.
In response, the Toms River Chess Club held a fundraiser on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in support of “Hold on I’m Coming” a local disaster relief organization founded by Mark Haug, a Central Regional High School educator and local Ocean County resident. The group was on the ground in Waretown, feeding both first responders and residents displaced by the fire. Between the Club and our members we donated over $450 in support.
In times of crisis, community matters. Every organization, even a chess club, can play a part in making a difference.
Thank you again to our first responders. Stay safe, and Stay #OceanCountyStrong.
