Event Overview

The Harrogate Senior Open will be a one day, five round tournament with two sections:

USCF Dual Rated Section
Unrated Section

Time control: G25; d5

Capacity: 80 players, 40 boards

Round Times:  10:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:00 PM, 2:30 PM, and 4:00 PM

Entry Fee: Free!

Byes: 2 half point byes must be requested before the start of Round 2.

 
Prizes: Trophies.

Top 5 for the Unrated Section

The Harrogate Senior Open, will be held on May 30, 2026 at the Harrogate Retirement Community in Lakewood, New Jersey (400 Locust St, Lakewood, NJ 08701)

This event will serve as one of the first senior dedicated chess tournaments on the Jersey Shore and will promote lifelong engagement with chess, social inclusion, and community based competition among players aged 60 and over.

The event is being organized as a joint partnership between the Toms River Chess Club, Harrogate Retirement Community, and 97 year old New Jersey Life Master Eugene Salomon who will be serving as Lead Organizer.
